Backups may be a thing of the past sooner then we think. The scientists at the University of Southampton have invented what many are referring to as “Superman Memory Crystals”. Quarts crystal disks that have the ability to store a massive 360TB of data for over 13.8 billion years at the extreme temperatures of 190°C & is even stable of up to and possibly exceeding 1000°C. This has opened up a whole new World of perpetual data storage.
Using nanostructured glass, scientists from the University’s Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC) have developed the recording and retrieval processes of five dimensional (5D) digital data by femtosecond laser writing. – University of Southampton
Elon Musk has even included one of these “Memory Disks” aboard the FalconX with the Tesla when they launched it into space back in February.
This form a data storage won’t be available to the consumer realm for quite some time yet. Until then we all still need to be vigilant and continue to back up our valuable data as safely as possible. The current best practice for keeping data as safe as possible in the unfortunate, unforeseen event of hardware failure is to follow the 3-2-1 Backup Strategy. A 3-2-1 strategy means having at least 3 total copies of your data, 2 of which are local but on different mediums (pc & external disk drive), and at least 1 copy offsite ( in the cloud ). The first two copies are your responsibility but for the “Offsite” backups Computer Corrections has you covered with our Cloud Backup & Storage service that starts at a low $5 a month!

These guidelines are geared towards the Non-Profit sector but everyone can gain some knowledge by reading and trying to conform to this set of guidelines.

Humble beginnings of the World Wide Web or the Net, which is it?
This is the single computer Tim Berners-Lee created The World Wide Web on… If it were to be powered off, the “web” would have come tumbling down! Thankfully today there are redundancies set in place so that this can’t happen. It just puts the whole thing into perspective, doesn’t it?
Berners-Lee is also the director of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), which oversees the continued development of the “Web” we all use and love today.
Now, there is a common misconception that the Internet and the World Wide Web are one in the same, but in fact, they are technically two separate systems working in tandem. There are many systems that run on top of the Internet & the World Wide Web is just one of these systems. In other words, the Internet is a network of networks spanning internationally across many continents. The World Wide Web is a group of Hypertext Documents layered on top of the already World Wide Internet, hence where the name World Wide Web came from.
The Internet is the global system of interconnected computer networks that use the Internet protocol suite (TCP/IP) to link devices worldwide. It is a network of networks that consists of private, public, academic, business, and government networks of local to global scope, linked by a broad array of electronic, wireless, and optical networking technologies. – Wikipidia

In the light of the US 2016 Elections many have pointed out the abundance of “fake news” articles floating around the internet on some very believable and some not so believable topics. Many of us can tell right away when an article may not be so trustworthy, but some just can’t tell the difference.
We first herd that Facebook was looking into the fake news situation on their social media platform back in November 2016 in a personal note from Mark Zuckerberg himself.
The bottom line is: we take misinformation seriously. Our goal is to connect people with the stories they find most meaningful, and we know people want accurate information. We’ve been working on this problem for a long time and we take this responsibility seriously. We’ve made significant progress, but there is more work to be done.
Since then Facebook has been working behind the scenes with third-party companies to combat fake news and it’s epidemic proportions.
Google has also started tagging their stories to show weather they’re trustworthy or not. In the end, the fact of the matter is, fake news is not good and needs to be dealt with.
OH NO, SO LONG VISTA…?
Microsoft has set the end of support date for Windows Vista on April 11th 2017. The most criticized operating system Microsoft has ever released is finally coming to an end.
But, what exactly does this all mean? According to the Windows lifecycle fact sheet
the End of support refers to the date when Microsoft no longer provides automatic fixes, updates, or online technical assistance. This is the time to make sure you have the latest available update or service pack installed. Without Microsoft support, you will no longer receive security updates that can help protect your PC from harmful viruses, spyware, and other malicious software that can steal your personal information.
Updating Windows Vista
Unfortunately, the update process going from Vista to 10 is not known to be particularly smooth. Computer Corrections can help keep your company or personal computer running at it’s peak performance. Contact us today to see how we can help you.
